Mike Tomlin bans Steelers from ‘silly’ end zone flips, somersaults

The Steelers head man celebrated his team’s first win of the season by banning end zone celebrations.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally got their first win of the season, but head coach Mike Tomlin isn't done laying down the law on an underachieving team. One week after banning pool, shuffleboard and ping pong in the locker room, Tomlin will not allow end zone leaps, calling it "silly."

Emmanuel Sanders and Le’Veon Bell. Both players somersaulted into the end zone to celebrate, but Tomlin will not be having any of that, unwilling to risk injuries or entertain a crowd who paid good money to watch a 1-5 team.

Tomlin has always been a buttoned-down, no-nonsense coach, in the grand Pittsburgh tradition of humorless control freaks, so this news shouldn’t come be a surprise as the Steelers had the worst start of his tenure. Cracking down on the riffraff may or may not force players to focus harder, but it’s doubtful that not letting Mike Adams play pool will make him a better run blocker.
