NFL news roundup: Eagles to stick with QB Nick Foles in Week 7, Jets sign WR/KR Josh Cribbs

The status of Nick Foles in Philadelphia, Josh Cribbs joining a new team and Jay Ratliff’s injury woes are among the stories making headlines on Tuesday.

Eagles backup quarterback Nick Foles will continue to start in place of injured starter Michael Vick. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur told reporters on Tuesday that the team would stick with Foles until Vick recovers from a hamstring pull that has sidelined him since halftime Week 5 against the Giants, according to Philly Mag.

Foles played well against the Buccaneers on Sunday, leading Philadelphia to a 31-20 win in Tampa Bay. The second-year player went 22-of-31 (71 percent) for 296 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and a rushing score. It was the best statistical performance by an Eagles quarterback since 2010.

Here are some other headlines you may have missed on Tuesday:

Josh Cribbs signs with Jets, per report

The Jets have made a move to improve their passing game. New York signed free agent wide receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs to a contract on Tuesday, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora. The Jets had worked out Cribbs at multiple points this season, before the signing.

Cribbs has been slowed by injuries in recent years but is historically one of the most dangerous returners in the NFL. He was signed by the Raiders in the offseason but failed to make the team due to lingering injury issues. His best season as a receiver came with the Browns in 2011, when he collected 41 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns.

Jerry Jones admits Cowboys DT Jay Ratliff might miss 2013 season

The Cowboys may be without one of their top stars on defense for the rest of the season. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes that a hamstring injury could keep defensive tackle Jay Ratliff out for the year, per NFL.com. Ratliff has missed the first six games of the season because of groin and hamstring injuries.

Jones said on his Tuesday radio show that the Pro Bowler is likely to be out for the season. He also made it known that if Ratliff were to miss the season, it may be his last in Dallas, according to Clarence Hill of the Dallas Star-Telegram. The Cowboys have already put defensive end Anthony Spencer on injured reserve.

Jake Locker injury: Titans QB unlikely to play against 49ers

It looks like the Titans will have to roll with backup Ryan Fitzpatrick again in Week 7. Starter Jake Locker is likely to sit out for Sunday's meeting with the 49ers, according to the Titans official website. Locker suffered an injury in Week 4 against the Jets and has been out of the lineup the last two games.

The Titans are 0-2 with Fitzpatrick at the helm this season. The former Bills passer has thrown two touchdowns and four interceptions this season, with the turnovers making a difference against the undefeated Chiefs and the talented Seahawks. He has also been held to a lowly 52.6 completion percentage.

Roddy White, Steven Jackson sit out Falcons’ practice

The Falcons continue to deal with the injury bug. Pro Bowlers Roddy White and Steven Jackson both missed practice on Tuesday. The play-making duo was joined on the sideline by offensive tackle Sam Baker.

Jackson has missed three games with a hamstring injury, while White has been hampered by a high ankle sprain all season. Baker has missed two games with a knee injury and may miss the Week 7 matchup against the Buccaneers. The Falcons are coming off a bye in Week 6, but the extra rest has not led to many returns on the practice field.
