Josh Freeman could start for Vikings vs. Giants, per report

With Minnesota desperate for a win, Freeman could play sooner than anybody expected.

The Minnesota Vikings may start quarterback Josh Freeman on Monday night against the New York Giants, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

It reportedly comes down to how fast Freeman can get in sync with the offense and master some of its concepts. If Freeman can not start, the choice is once again between Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel, who have combined to lead the Vikings to a 1-4 start.

Freeman has only been with the team for less than two week after signing a one-year, $3 million contract. Freeman started the year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he had played the first three seasons of his career after being a 2009 first-round draft pick.

However, Freeman was released after three bad games and a subsequent benching from head coach Greg Schiano, who went with rookie Mike Glennon.
