NFL Players of the Week: Nick Foles highlights Week 6 honorees

Nick Foles earned NFC Player of the Week honors for his Week 6 performance against the Buccaneers, sparking the inevitable quarterback controversy in Philadelphia. Andy Dalton, Tamba Hali and Thomas Davis were also honored.

Nick Foles was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after starting for an injured Michael Vick and passing for 296 yards and three touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. Foles went 22-for-31 passing and added a rushing touchdown to help the Philadelphia Eagles bounce the Bucs, 31-20.

The performance sparked a, perhaps inevitable, quarterback controversy in Philadelphia. While that sorts itself out, Eagles fans can take heart in an offense that has now produced the best offensive player in the conference in consecutive weeks. DeSean Jackson won in Week 5 for his performance against the New York Giants, aided in part by Foles' passing.

In the AFC, Andy Dalton was named Offensive Player of the Week after going 26-for-40 passing for a season-high 337 yards, three touchdowns and one interception against the Buffalo Bills. Dalton entered the game having been held without a touchdown pass in two straight contests. His performance Sunday may placate critics, at least for this week.

On defense, Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Tamba Hali and Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis were named the AFC and NFC players of the week, respectively. Hali racked up 3.5 sacks in a win over the Oakland Raiders. Davis had nine tackles, two sacks and a pass breakup during a win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Dwayne Harris as NFC Special Teams Player of the Week may have been the easiest selection among this week's honorees. He had an 86-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 90-yard kickoff return to help the Dallas Cowboys defeat the Washington Redskins on Sunday night. San Diego Chargers kicker Nick Novak was the AFC special teams honoree after booting four field goals, including a 50-yarder, in a win over the Indianapolis Colts.
