The New York Giants have signed free agent running back Peyton Hillis, according to FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo. He will act as veteran insurance with the team thin at running back.
Giants sign Peyton Hillis
The Giants are adding some veteran help to a depleted backfield.

The Giants are desperate for help in the backfield. David Wilson is out several weeks with a neck injury, Andre Brown isn't eligible to come back until Week 10 at the earliest and backup Da'Rel Scott is dealing with a hamstring injury. Brandon Jacobs and Michael Cox were the only healthy running backs on the depth chart before the team signed Hillis.
Hillis enjoyed his best season with the Cleveland Browns in 2010, when he rushed for 1,177 yards and made the cover of Madden. It's been all downhill since then for him, spending time as a backup with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. He had a brief stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year, but was cut after a lackluster preseason and knee injury.
