NFL injuries: Calais Campbell will play against Seahawks; Harrison Smith to hold off on surgery

Injury updates for Calais Campbell, Harrison Smith and Rob Gronkowski are making headlines on Thursday.

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell will play in Week 7 against the Seahawks on Thursday Night Football, according to the ArizonaSports.com.

The lineman was carted off the field with a neck injury during the Cardinals' loss to the 49ers in Week 6. Campbell suffered from numbness and tingling and spent the night in a hospital. He has practiced in a leading capacity leading up to the NFC West showdown against the Seahawks. The game will take place just four days after the frightening injury.

Here are some more injury headlines you may have missed on Thursday:

Harrison Smith injury: Vikings S not planning surgery on toe, per report

Vikings safety Harrison Smith is suffering from turf toe but will hold off on surgery, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Smith is likely to be placed on the short-term injured reserve due to the injury, but will likely be able to play again at some point this season.

The loss of Smith is a huge blow to the Vikings, who rank among the league's worst defenses. The Vikings are currently 29th in the league in pass defense and are surrendering 308 yards per game in that department. Minnesota also lost linebacker Desmond Bishop for the season to a torn ACL in Week 6.

Rob Gronkowski injury: Patriots TE still not cleared to play, agent Drew Rosenhaus says

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has not been cleared to play because he still has not been given the OK from Dr. James Andrews, according to ESPN Boston's Field Yates. The report comes after agent Drew Rosenhaus told Miami's 560 WQAM that his client would not take the field until he was approved by Andrews, who is serving as an independent consultant for Gronkowski.

Rosenhaus told the radio station that there is a difference between being cleared for practice and being cleared for games. Gronkowski has been rumored to return to the lineup for weeks, but has yet to dress on game day. The Patriots are currently 5-1.

Sean Spence injury: Steelers LB practices for 1st time since Aug. 2012

Steelers linebacker Sean Spence has returned to practice for the first time since suffering a catastrophic knee injury in August of last year, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Spence's rookie season ended in a preseason after he tore his ACL and LCL, dislocated his knee cap and damaged the peroneal nerve that helps control movement in the lower leg.

Spence was activated off the PUP list this week. Under NFL rules, the Steelers have three weeks to make sure that Spence can play in a game or they will have to place him on season-ending injured reserve or waive him.

Danny Amendola and Aqib Talib still out of practice on Thursday

Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola and cornerback Aqib Talib are not practicing on Thursday, according to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe. Amendola is suffering from a concussion suffered in Week 6 against the Saints, while Talib is bothered by a hip injury. Amendola has already missed several games this season with a groin injury.

New England linebacker Jerod Mayo was recently been placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle.
