Robert Griffin III, a player known for his aggressive style that often puts him in harm's way, admitted to ESPN on Wednesday that he will run out of bounds and try to draw a flag on late hits to gain more yardage. Griffin may try to pull a hesitation move to bait the defender in hitting him when he's already out of bounds so that a penalty will be tacked on.

The Redskins QB, who has a tendency to put himself in the path of danger, admits that he sometimes does so on purpose to gain more yardage via penalties.

"There will be situations, and that's why guys don't want to pull up," Griffin said. "It's happened in the past with Michael Vick or someone like that who has run to the sidelines, stopped and then gotten 20 more yards because the guy runs out of bounds trying not to hit the quarterback."
It might not seem like the type of strategy that Redskins fans want to hear for a quarterback who tore his ACL in the playoffs last season, and is often cited by analysts as at risk due to his playing style that may cause him to take bigger hits than your average QB.
Griffin ended up starting Week 1 of this season and has not missed any games because of his injury suffered against the Seahawks in the NFC playoffs, but his play and production have clearly changed. He is running the ball less and gaining fewer yards per carry than he did a year ago, and his passing statistics have deflated, as well. It may be that drawing a penalty is just one way to make up for that, but at what cost?
