A hip flexor strain is likely to keep cornerback Aqib Talib out of Sunday’s divisional matchup against the New York Jets.

Talib strained his hip flexor in a Week 6 win over the New Orleans Saints and has not practiced this week. He has been the Patriots' best cornerback in 2013, and even though the injury is not believed to be serious, Talib is expected to miss one week while he recovers.
The loss is a serious blow to a New England secondary ranked 13th in the league in pass defense, allowing 229 yards passing per game. Talib was on pace for the best season of his career before the injury, recording four interceptions and nine passes defended in six games.
Talib's injury will force the Patriots to either play the untested Marquice Cole or rookie Logan Ryan. Cole has played in two games this season, recording two tackles. Ryan has potential to be a long-term option for New England, but starting him this early wasn't in the team's plans. He started one game this season, but has played mostly in a rotational role -- netting three tackles in 2013.
