NFL news roundup: Eugene Monroe traded; Josh Freeman drama and more

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded left tackle Eugene Monroe, there’s more Josh Freeman drama to read about and more you might have missed from Tuesday.

Phil Sears-US PRESSWIRE

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Eugene Monroe was traded to the Baltimore Ravens late Tuesday night. Monroe still has to pass a physical, but that shouldn't be an issue. The deal will be official once he does, though compensation isn't known at this time outside of the fact that Jacksonville will receive "multiple third-day draft picks." Rookie first-round pick Luke Joeckel will slide over to the left side.

Here’s what else you might have missed from Tuesday:

Freeman, Buccaneers drama continues to unfold

On Tuesday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said he had nothing to do with the leaking of sensitive medical information regarding benched quarterback Josh Freeman. In addition to this, the NFL Players Association has launched an investigation into the matter. And then the weirdness continued, further reports suggested that Freeman was asked to miss a team meeting, for whatever reason. Yep...

Beachum to replace Adams

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum will likely supplant Mike Adams as the starter at left tackle. Beachum worked with the first team at practice and Adams has struggled mightily all season. The Steelers are on a bye week right now, so it's the perfect time to make the switch.

Floyd out for season

Being a wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers is hard. The neck injury Malcom Floyd suffered in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles was found to be worse than previously expected, and he was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. He'll miss the remainder of the season and San Diego is now down to their fourth or fifth man at this point.

49ers to sign Skelton

The San Francisco 49ers plan to sign fourth-year quarterback John Skelton. The team worked out Skelton, who was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals this year. B.J. Daniels, a rookie, was waived on Tuesday along with fullback Owen Marecic, so Skelton will likely serve as the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Colin Kaepernick and backup Colt McCoy.

Freeney out for season

Chargers outside linebacker Dwight Freeney will require surgery on his torn quadriceps muscle. The injury will put an end to his season, as the team placed him on injured reserve Tuesday. Freeney was playing well after spending much of the offseason unsigned as teams avoided the aging pass rusher for whatever reason. San Diego came calling when they lost Melvin Ingram for the season.
