Cowboys lose faith in DeMarco Murray as franchise RB

Murray’s injury history is starting to test the Cowboys’ patience.

Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray will miss Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a sprained knee, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the team is losing faith in him as its franchise running back.

Murray has a history of injuries due to his running style, and the Cowboys are understandably having a tough time relying on him each and every week. Dallas drafted Joseph Randle in the 2013 NFL Draft, but Rapoport said to keep an eye on the Cowboys at the trading deadline. They may look to add another running back.

Adam Schefter reported that the Cowboys are projected to be a league-high $31 million over the salary cap in 2014. He added that one executive called Dallas’ cap situation a “train wreck.”

With the Cowboys in dire need of cutting cap space, and Murray constantly in and out of the lineup, it makes sense for the Cowboys to make a move at the deadline.
