Bills vs. Dolphins 2013 results: Thad Lewis leads upset win over Dolphins

The Bills recovered from a surge by the Dolphins to hold on, 23-21, for the upset victory.

The Buffalo Bills used a last-minute field goal to defeat the Miami Dolphins, 23-21. The Bills move to 4-3, while the Dolphins dropped their third game in a row.

The Dolphins didn't get off to a great start--Ryan Tannehill threw a pick-six to Nickell Robey on the third play from scrimmage. The Bills had a scary moment in the first quarter when running back Fred Jackson went down with a knee injury, but he came back and scored another touchdown, extending Buffalo's lead to 14-0.

Tannehill continued to struggle in the second quarter, throwing an ugly interception into the end zone for his second pick of the day. He finally got Miami on the board with a short touchdown toss to Charles Clay. The Dolphins got within three points at the end of the first half, when Brandon Gibson made an acrobatic leap over several defenders to get into the end zone. The Bills went into halftime leading, 17-14.

Gibson gave the Dolphins the lead with his second touchdown of the day in the third quarter. Thad Lewis led the Bills back down the field, but they were unable to punch it in from the goal line. Buffalo settled for a field goal, giving Miami a 21-20 lead. The Bills defense held Miami scoreless in the fourth quarter and Lewis drove his team back down into field goal range with two minutes left. Dan Carpenter kicked a 31-yard field goal with 36 seconds left to go, sealing the win for Buffalo.
