Patriots vs. Jets: Bill Belichick disagrees with field goal penalty

New York won in overtime on a field goal following a controversial call, and Belichick doesn’t agree that it should have ever went down that way.

The Jets beat the Patriots on Sunday with a 42-yard field goal in overtime by Nick Folk, but that attempt was only possible thanks to a 15-yard penalty on New England's Chris Jones. On the same play, Folk missed a 56-yard field goal attempt.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said after the game that he disagreed with the call, a personal foul on Jones for pushing a teammate into the offensive formation. Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reported that Belichick said that “there wasn’t a push at the second level that would require a flag.”

The Patriots forced overtime when Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 44-yard field goal with 16 seconds left in regulation, but they were unable to get anything going on the first drive in overtime. Jets head coach Rex Ryan opted to give Folk a chance to win the game on a 56-yard attempt, but with the miss it appeared that Tom Brady and New England would get great field position to start with to possibly win the game.

However, the penalty on Jones gave the Jets a second chance and they took advantage. Belichick does not seem to agree that they deserved that chance.
