Brandon Meriweather could receive suspension, per report

The Redskins overly aggressive safety might be lighter in the wallet very soon.

Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather could be suspended for his head-hunting hit Sunday against the Chicago Bears, according to Jason La Confora.

Meriweather hit wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall in the head, being flagged twice in the 45-41 Washington victory. The former New England Patriots draft pick has been fined multiple times before for illegal hits, including a $42,000 fine last month for his hit on Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy.

Marshall, a former teammate of Meriweather when both played for the Bears, has seen enough of the safety and had some harsh words for him after the game, per NFL.com:

"Guys like that really don't understand that there is life after football," Marshall said, per the Chicago Tribune. "I respect the league trying to better our game and guys like that, maybe he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely. I understand. I get it. I was one of those guys. I played defense growing up. I was a headhunter. Even sometimes on the offensive side, I played that way. But with rules in place, you've gotta respect it."

For his part, Meriweather did not see anything wrong with any of his hits, which is precisely the problem. Per the article:

"I feel like every hit that I took was a legit hit," he said, per the Washington Post. "I wasn't trying to be dirty. I wasn't trying to hurt nobody. I didn't launch with my head. I used my shoulder like they told me to do. Everything I did was a pointer from them (league officials).... You've just got to play. There ain't nothing I can do about it. I just go out there and play."

Should Meriweather get suspended for any length of time, the Redskins will have to go with Bacarri Rambo according to the team's depth chart.
