Brandon Jacobs injury: Giants RB likely ‘doubtful’ for Monday Night Football

Brandon Jacobs is closer to “doubtful” than his officially listed “questionable” designation, according to reports, likely leaving the Giants with just Michael Cox and Peyton Hillis to man the running game Monday night.

Brandon Jacobs is listed as questionable on the New York Giants injury report before Monday night's game against the Minnesota Vikings, but according to Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo, the running back is closer to "doubtful." Jacobs is dealing with a hamstring injury that does not appear to be subsiding as many have hoped.

If Jacobs sits, the Giants won't have many options at running back. With David Wilson still on the mend, the team is down to seventh-round rookie Michael Cox and the recently signed Peyton Hillis to shoulder the rushing load. Neither player has yet to record a carry this season.

Jacobs signed with the Giants in early September, and enjoyed a gradually increasing workload in the backfield thanks to injuries ahead of him. In Week 6, he led the Giants to their best rushing performance of the season, picking up 106 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries against the Chicago Bears. Unfortunately, as has happened too often throughout Jacobs' career, an injury has slowed him down just as he was gaining momentum.

The Giants' running game ranks 31st in the NFL averaging just 67.8 yards per game. Only the Jacksonville Jaguars are worse at 63.0 yards per game.
