Lance Briggs injury: Bears LB will miss 4-6 weeks, per report

Briggs has missed four games in his career, but will reportedly be out for an extended period of time with a shoulder injury.

The Chicago Bears will be without seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs for an extended period of time although he will not need surgery to repair his injured shoulder, as Pro Football Talk reports he will miss 4-6 weeks.

Briggs, 32, has never missed more than two games in any of his first 10 seasons in the NFL, as he's played in 163 of 167 possible games since he was drafted in the third-round of the 2003 NFL Draft. Through seven games in 2013, Briggs has tallied two sacks, two forced fumbles, eight passes defended and 64 tackles.

The loss of Briggs is a big one for the Bears, as the team already ranks in the bottom five of the NFL in points allowed. Through seven games, the Bears defense has not yet held a team under 20 points and ranks in the bottom 10 at both stopping the pass and the run.

With Briggs out, rookie linebacker Jon Bostic will likely be expected to take on a bigger role, while rookie Khaseem Greene should see additional snaps at outside linebacker.
