Brandon Weeden will start for Browns vs. Chiefs

Brandon Weeden will start for the Browns on Sunday against the Chiefs despite an ugly performance against the Packers in Week 7.

Brian Kersey

Brandon Weeden will start for the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 against the Kansas City Chiefs, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports. Weeden struggled mightily in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers, enough so that head coach Rod Chudzinski considered benching him in favor of Jason Campbell, according to Mary Kay Cabot at the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Chudzinski will stick with Weeden for now, though La Canfora suggested that Campbell could be ready to step in if Weeden gets off to another bad start. Considering how stingy the Chiefs’ defense has been this season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the quarterback struggle again. Weeden is 0-4 in four starts this season. He is completing 52.8 percent of his passes at 5.92 yards per attempt, and has thrown five touchdowns to six interceptions.

SB Nation's Brandon Porath made a case for Weeden as the worst quarterback in NFL on Sunday. While Weeden isn't the only quarterback to exemplify futility in the NFL this season, the argument isn't unfounded. The Browns' first two wins of the season came with Brian Hoyer starting behind center.

Hoyer started the Browns’ third win, too, but was knocked out of the game with a torn ACL. Weeden had by far his best game of the season after taking over for Hoyer, but has since returned to his ugly ways.
