Ravens trade Bryant McKinnie to Dolphins, per report

Bryant McKinnie is headed to Miami in a trade between the Dolphins and the Ravens. The Dolphins have given up 26 sacks thus far on the season.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Bryant McKinnie will be joining the Miami Dolphins in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens, Jay Glazer at Fox Sports reports. There is no word yet what the Ravens received in return.

McKinnie has spent the last three seasons in Baltimore playing left tackle. However, he became expendable this season after the Ravens traded with the Jacksonville Jaguars for Eugene Monroe. McKinnie was considered one of the key pieces to the team's run through the Super Bowl last season, but he hasn't been effective at left tackle in 2013. According to Pro Football Focus, he is currently graded 65th out of 73 qualifying tackles.

The Dolphins are desperate for help along the offensive line. The team let Jake Long leave for the St. Louis Rams in free agency before the season began, and have since struggled to protect quarterback Ryan Tannehill with Jonathan Martin protecting the blindside. Only three teams -- the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders -- have given up more than the 26 sacks the Dolphins have allowed this season.

It’d be a lot to ask of McKinnie to cure the Dolphins’ pass protection problems even if he does immediately take over a starting spot along the line. However, McKinnie should provide some solid veteran competition for Martin at the very least.

Bryant is excited to be going to Miami, per NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport:
