NFL waiver claims: CB Jordan Poyer to Browns, RB Bobby Rainey to Buccaneers

The waiver wire was active on Monday.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The waiver wire featured a few moves on Monday. Three teams were awarded young talent that had been let go by their previous club over the weekend. For the Browns, Buccaneers and Panthers, the new additions will fill roster needs for the respective franchises.

The Panthers were awarded wide receiver Tavarres King off over waivers from the Broncos on Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The rookie out of Georgia was let go by the Broncos on Sunday. Denver drafted King in the fifth-round but stashed him on the practice squad following final cuts in August. King was signed to the Broncos active roster in Week 6 but did not appear in a game. The Panthers released veteran cornerback D.J. Moore to make room for King, according to the Charlotte Observer's Jonathan Jones.

The Buccaneers added depth to their running back group by claiming Bobby Rainey, according to Pro Football Talk. The second-year running back won a Super Bowl as a member of the Ravens practice squad in 2012, but was cut and signed by the Browns. Cleveland cut Rainey on Friday after he only managed 34 yards on 13 carries during six games with the Browns. With Doug Martin likely to miss the rest of the season with a torn labrum, Rainey's addition will likely be for depth behind rookie Mike James.

The Browns have filled Rainey's spot with former Eagles cornerback Jordan Poyer, per Philly Mag's Tim McManus. Poyer was selected in the seventh-round of this year's draft by the Eagles and played in three games for Philadelphia. He was cut on Saturday after being inactive for two-straight games. Cornerback Julian Posey was cut to make room for Poyer, according to the Akron Beacon Journal's Nate Ulrich.
