Adrian Peterson dealt with ‘tight’ hamstring vs. Giants

Peterson had one of the worst games of his career, but says he wasn’t 100 percent on Monday night.

Jim O’Connor-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants earned their first win of the season on Monday night, holding the Minnesota Vikings offense without a point, as the only touchdown for the team came on a first-quarter punt return. Among those struggling for the Vikings in the loss was Adrian Peterson, who managed just 28 yards rushing on 13 carries, although tightness in his hamstring may have been a factor.

After the game, Peterson told the media (including Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press) that his hamstring was "tight at times" during the game. The Vikings drew criticism from many for electing to lean heavily on the pass attack of newly-acquired Josh Freeman, who finished the game 20-of-53 passing with 190 yards and an interception.

Peterson's 28 yards rushing were the fewest he has finished with in a game since he tallied just 26 yards rushing on six carries against the Oakland Raiders in 2011 before he was carted to the locker room in the first half with a foot injury. Through six games, Peterson has accumulated 511 yards rushing and five touchdowns, far from the 131.1 yards per game pace he set in 2012.
