Brandon Meriweather appeals 2-game suspension

Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather has submitted an appeal for his two-game suspension.

Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather has officially appealed his two-game suspension, according to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports. Meriweather was suspended by the NFL for repeated illegal blows, namely those falling under the designation as hits to the head.

The two specific hit of (recent) note were on Chicago Bears wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Meriweather was flagged for personal fouls on both hits. It's not the first time he's been in trouble this season, as he earned a whopping $42,000 fine earlier in the season for leading with his helmet on a hit on Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy.

Lacy sustained a concussion as a result of the hit. The NFL has been taking these kinds of things (hits to the head) more and more seriously, though the officials have struggled to properly enforce the helmet-to-helmet rules over the past couple seasons. Meriweather may have a case based on that, but the hits seemed like they were called the right way.

The date of the hearing is not known, but it makes sense that Meriweather would request an expedited process so as to try and be active for the team’s next game.
