- The Detroit Lions have released tight end Tony Scheffler. Scheffler spent the first four years of his eight-year career with the Broncos before getting traded to the Lions in 2010. He suffered a concussion this season that kept him out multiple weeks. Rookie Joseph Fauria took over his main role as a red-zone target.
- In a corresponding roster move, Detroit signed offensive tackle Barry Richardson. Richardson started 16 games for the St. Louis Rams last year, but didn't find an NFL team after being released by the Tennessee Titans at final roster cuts. He will provide depth along the offensive line.
- The Atlanta Falcons signed linebacker Thomas Howard and waived linebacker Jamar Chaney. Howard appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals in 2011, but lasted just one game with them last season before tearing his ACL. He previously spent five seasons with the Oakland Raiders. The signing indicates that he's all the way back from knee surgery. Chaney played just one game for Atlanta, contributing on special teams.
- The Indianapolis Colts signed cornerback Jalil Brown. Brown was needed to fill a roster spot after the Colts placed wide receiver Reggie Wayne on injured reserve. A fourth-round draft pick from 2011, he lasted just two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before being released at the end of preseason. He primarily played on special teams.
