Agent who botched Elvis Dumervil’s contract in Denver disciplined by NFLPA

The former agent of Elvis Dumervil is facing the consequences of his summer contract snafu.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

The man that cost Ravens linebacker Elvis Dumervil millions of dollars is being punished by the NFL Players Association.

Agent Marty Magid's certification is being suspended for six months and he will be fined $25,000 for failing to fax the contract of his former client to the Denver Broncos in time to avoid the long-term deal deadline for the franchise tag this summer, according to the NFLPA. The Broncos had reached a deal with Dumervil before the deadline, per PFT.

The cost of the franchise tag was too steep for the Broncos, who were forced to cut Dumervil. The pass rusher signed with the Ravens soon after his release and dropped Magid as his agent. Magid does have the right to appeal the suspension and fine, according to the report. The NFLPA’s Committee on Agent Regulation and Discipline (CARD) believes that Magid’s actions negatively affected his former client.

Here is an expert from the press release:

After investigation, CARD determined that the negligence of Magid, former certified contractor advisor for Elvis Dumervil, contributed to the events that led to the Denver Broncos’ release of Dumervil in March 2013. CARD has imposed a six month suspension of Magid’s certification as an NFLPA contract advisor and a $25,000 fine.
