Defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, who was waived by the Dallas Cowboys last Wednesday, claims he has been medically cleared to play, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Jay Ratliff injury: Free agent DT cleared to play, according to agent
After being cut by the Cowboys last week, Ratliff claims he has been medically cleared to return from a nagging injury that has kept him off the field in 2013.

Mark Slough, the four-time Pro Bowler’s agent, sent a letter to the league’s other 31 teams notifying them that Ratliff has been cleared to return from a hamstring injury that has kept him from playing a single snap so far in 2013. In the letter, Slough writes that Dr. William Meyer cleared Ratliff to return to action after an examination on Wednesday.
“Jay will now continue his individual workouts in Dallas and work hard to regain further strength and improve his conditioning,” Slough wrote. “His goal is to be ready to [work out] for clubs in a couple of weeks. He currently weighs 304 [pounds] and is in very good shape ... just needs to take his workouts up a notch.”
The Cowboys let Ratliff go last week after injuries severely limited his availability over the last season-plus. A groin injury kept the 32-year old sidelined for all but six games last season and the hamstring issue suffered prior to training camp has kept him off the field in 2013.
Ratliff was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2005 draft and played the following eight seasons in Dallas.
