LeSean McCoy admits he did ‘own thing,’ promises bounceback vs. Giants
The running back took the blame for the Eagles’ poor offensive performance in last week’s loss to the Cowboys, saying he failed to stick to play designs.

Running back LeSean McCoy said the blame for the rushing shortcomings fall squarely on his shoulders. McCoy, who finished with just 55 yards on 18 carries, told Philadelphia Magazine's Sheil Kapadia that he feels as though he let his team down.
“I just wasn’t myself,” he said. “I felt like with a game like this where my team needed me and depended on me, I didn’t show up. I started doing just too many individual type of plays, not really going with the plays and just doing my own thing.”
McCoy, the NFL’s leader in rushing yards, entered the game with a 5.1 yards per carry average but could muster only a 3.1-yard average against the Dallas defense. In his article, Kapadia breaks down several plays in which McCoy had open running lanes and blockers downfield but instead chose to reverse field and lost yardage.
“I just tried to make too many things happen,” McCoy admitted. “Certain plays, from running the ball to screens, different things like that. I felt that was probably my worst performance since my rookie year. But I’ll bounce back this week for sure. Just gotta trust in the scheme.”
He'll get his chance to bounce back this Sunday against the New York Giants' 21st-ranked rush defense.
