Jets ‘happy’ with Rex Ryan, won’t discuss contract status, says owner Woody Johnson

New York is off to a 4-3 start and in the playoff hunt, and that’s keeping the owner happy with his coach so far.

USA TODAY Sports

The Jets are off to a 4-3 start under Rex Ryan this year and in position to possibly secure an AFC Wild Card berth, if not the AFC East division title, and owner Woody Johnson expressed on Thursday that he's happy with the job his coach has done so far.

Johnson, however, would not go as far as to say whether or not Ryan’s job was in jeopardy or secure, remaining adamant that a decision on that front wouldn’t happen until the season is over.

Ryan is signed through the end of next season.

Despite starting rookie Geno Smith for all seven games this season, and seeing him throw 11 interceptions, New York is above .500 and coming off of a 30-27 overtime win over the New England Patriots. Much like it did during the first two years with Mark Sanchez, the Jets defense has carried the team to a respectable record.

The Jets have not won or lost consecutive games yet this year and travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals in Week 8. Ryan is 38-33 in his career with New York, but hasn't made the playoffs since 2010.
