Patriots’ Logan Ryan fined for TD celebration

The rookie corner emulated an infamous move from a 2010 playoff game, but it ended up costing him some salary and he was very apologetic on Thursday.

The NFL has fined Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan $10,000 for his crotch grab as he jumped into the end zone on Sunday against the Jets. The rookie corner intercepted the Jets' Geno Smith in the first quarter on Sunday and returned it 79 yards for a touchdown to give New England a 14-7 lead. As he crossed the goal line, he grabbed his crotch and jumped backwards for the score, simulating the same move done by Marshawn Lynch for the Seahawks in their 2010 playoff win over the Saints.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported through Twitter that Ryan said he would “own up to it 100 percent” and that the incident was “not who I am.”

It was the first career interception for Ryan, a third-round pick out of Rutgers who has made two starts for the Patriots this year, and he was clearly excited to tack on his first career touchdown. The Patriots ended up losing to the Jets, 30-27, in overtime.
