Jason Pierre-Paul admits he’s not fully healthy, won’t be until 2014

With just one sack this season, Pierre-Paul said he does not expect to be fully recovered from back surgery until next year.

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul hasn't been as effective as usual this season and he admitted to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News on Thursday that he's not fully recovered from back surgery four months ago. Pierre-Paul said that it would likely take the entire offseason in 2014 for him to get back to his "old ways."

Two seasons ago, Pierre-Paul recorded 16.5 sacks and the Giants won the Super Bowl. He had just 6.5 sacks last season but even that number seems a stretch right now. Pierre-Paul has recorded just one sack in seven games and only 17 tackles. The Giants are 1-6 and rank 31st in the NFL in points allowed.

Pierre-Paul had back surgery in June and missed the entire preseason, not even practicing until about a week before the season started. He’s been saying since the beginning of the year that he didn’t expect to be ready to go right away, but now it seems like he might not expect to be where he wants to be until next season.
