NFL injury roundup: C.J. Spiller could sit Week 8, Michael Vick on track to start

C.J. Spiller may be a scratch against the Saints, and Michael Vick should see the field once again with Nick Foles still recovering from a concussion. Those updates, plus more on Jason Pierre-Paul, Adrian Peterson and Peyton Manning.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

C.J. Spiller has not been 100 percent lately, reportedly running through a persistent ankle injury for the last month that could leave the Buffalo Bills running back on the sideline this weekend against the New Orleans Saints. Spiller sprained the ankle three weeks ago, but has not missed a game. As a result, he may not have taken enough time to heal, and head coach Doug Marrone is considering giving Spiller a rest. Spiller's workload has decreased since suffering the injury. He had a season-low six carries against the Miami Dolphins last week.

Nick Foles has yet to be cleared, Michael Vick likely to start

Nick Foles has yet to be cleared to practice after suffering a concussion last Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. This puts Michael Vick, who is coming off a hamstring injury, on track to start against the New York Giants this weekend. Vick returned to practice Wednesday as a full participant, and barring a setback, will likely be behind center against the Giants.

If Foles is to be cleared for play this week, the determination will not come until Friday.

Jason Pierre-Paul won’t be 100 percent until 2014

Jason Pierre-Paul has not looked like his usual self this season, with just one sack in seven games played. According to the defensive end, he is still not yet fully recovered from back surgery he underwent during the offseason. Pierre-Paul said that he will likely need to the entire 2014 offseason to get back to 100 percent. In the mean time, he may have to continue to muddle through a disappointing season for the 1-6 New York Giants.

DeMarco Murray ready to play, DeMarcus Ware still on the mend

Good news for the Cowboys: running back DeMarco Murray is expected to play Sunday against the Detroit Lions after missing Week 7 with a knee injury.

Bad news for the Cowboys: defensive end DeMarcus Ware will likely sit once again due to a quad injury.

Murray has been back in practice for the Cowboys this week, although he was limited Wednesday. Ware has been absent, however.

Adrian Peterson running tentatively due to hamstring bruise

Adrian Peterson has a reputation for being one of the toughest players in the NFL, but he admitted recently that he has had trouble running through a hamstring bruise he suffered more than a month ago. His recent output has noticeably diminished, perhaps as a direct result. Peterson said that the injury was only mentally holding him back from performing how he wanted, and that he should be full-go for this weekend's game against the Green Bay Packers.

Manning, Welker, Decker back in practice for the Broncos

Peyton Manning, Wes Welker and Eric Decker didn't spend much time on the mend for the Denver Broncos. All three players were back in practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday. Manning's absence was perhaps the most concerning to fans. He suffered an ankle injury during the Broncos' Week 7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, but appears to be on target to start Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

Jeremy Kerley limited with hamstring injury

Jeremy Kerley was limited in practice Thursday, though the New York Jets are reportedly simply being precautionary. Kerley is arguably the team's most vital passing target, especially with Santonio Holmes out for the time being. He did not appear to suffer an injury last week when he caught eight passes for 97 yards to help beat the New England Patriots. The Jets want Kerley to be as healthy as possible for this weekend's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
