Tom Brady injury: Patriots QB appears on Thursday injury report

Tom Brady appeared on the Patriots’ injury report Thursday. Should Pats fans be worried, or is Bill Belichick showing some gamesmanship?

Jim Rogash

Tom Brady was a notable addition to the New England Patriots' injury report Thursday. The Pats listed him as a limited participant with a right shoulder injury, which happens to be his throwing shoulder. Up until Thursday, Brady had not appeared on the team's injury report this season. There is no word yet whether his status is questionable for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.

Fans and onlookers of the Patriots have become accustomed to seeing Brady on the injury report in recent seasons. He has yet to miss a game since suffering a knee injury and missing all but the opener of 2008 season, however. Some of have come to view Brady's spot on the report as gamesmanship on the part of head coach Bill Belichick. The Dolphins also placed Ryan Tannehill on the injury report with a right shoulder injury this week, so the Patriots may be taking a not-so subtle jab.

Alec Shane at Patriots blog Pats Pulpit welcomed Brady's addition. The Patriots have had a relatively rough few months since Brady last appeared on the injury report in Week 16 last year. Wes Welker left, and the team has dealt with serious injuries to Rob Gronkowski, Shane Vereen, Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo, Aqib Talib and Danny Amendola. Perhaps Brady's reappearance can help the team bounce back from last week's loss to the New York Jets.

Here’s Shane:

So let’s all relax and breathe a nice sigh of relief. Looks like things are finally returning to normal. The ship has been righted.

Unless, of course, this is the one time in the past eight years it isn’t just a matter of resting Brady’s arm as the season wears on and there really is a cause for concern. In that case, let’s all get ready to panic.
