Redskins vs. Broncos 2013 results: Peyton Manning’s late surge lifts Denver to 45-21 win

The Broncos scored 38 unanswered points to improve to 7-1.

The Denver Broncos fell behind Washington, 21-7, in the second half of Sunday's Week 8 game, but Peyton Manning and company stormed back, scoring 38 unanswered points and coming away with a 45-21 victory.

Manning started the game off strong with a touchdown pass to Wes Welker, but the Broncos' passing offense stalled after that until a second-half surge. Manning even threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown before turning things around late in the third quarter.

After a Montee Ball touchdown run late in the third quarter, Manning broke through in the fourth quarter, throwing touchdown passes to Joel Dreessen, Knowshon Moreno and Demaryius Thomas. All in all, Manning had another strong outing, passing for over 350 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions.

The play of Denver's defense was a welcome change for a team that has been leaning on its offense all season long. The Broncos came into the game allowing an average of 319.9 yards per game through the air. Still, Robert Griffin III didn't go over 100 yards passing until late in the fourth quarter, threw two interceptions and lost a fumble.

The win improves Denver's record to 7-1, though the team remains a game back on the Kansas City Chiefs, who went to 8-0 with a win over the Browns on Sunday. Meanwhile, Washington dropped to 2-5 but still sits only two games back of the division lead.

Injuries

Both teams suffered significant injuries on offense, the severity of which are not known. Broncos tight end Julius Thomas left the game with an ankle injury and did not return. Meanwhile, Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III suffered a late injury to his left knee, which is not the one he injured a year ago. Griffin did not return to the game.

Fantasy studs and duds

Even with four turnovers to his name, Peyton Manning was a fantasy stud. Over 350 yards passing and four touchdowns are all any fantasy owner can ask for. The rest of the Broncos' offense was fantasy relevant as well. Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker and Knowshon Moreno all found the end zone.

For Washington, Alfred Morris maintained his fantasy football stardom, rushing for 93 yards and a touchdown. Three turnovers made Griffin a fantasy dud on Sunday.

Did they cover?

The Broncos were favored by 11 points, according to OddsShark.com, and easily covered the spread.

What’s next?

The Broncos have a bye week in Week 9.

The Redskins will play at home against the San Diego Chargers on Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. ET.
