Matt Schaub injury: Texans QB has torn ankle ligaments, per report

Matt Schaub will be hobbled the rest of the season with torn ligaments in his ankle, according to reports. Will the Texans give him another chance to be the starter?

Matt Schaub has torn ligaments in his injured ankle, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Schaub may try to play through the injury for the Houston Texans, but according to Rapoport the quarterback might not be "right" at any point this season. The Texans are coming off a bye after starting Case Keenum in place of Schaub in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Schaub has struggled mightily this season, even before getting hurt. On the year, he has thrown eight touchdowns to nine interceptions. Heading into Week 6 against the St. Louis Rams, he had thrown a pick-six in four consecutive games to set a dubious NFL record.

The Texans have yet to make a decision on a starting quarterback for Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts. Keenum played fairly well against the Chiefs, going 15-for-25 passing for 271 yards and a touchdown, and might remain behind center. The fact that Schaub is still hobbled (and will be for the rest of the season) may make head coach Gary Kubiak's decision much easier.
