Brandon Gibson injury: Dolphins WR out for season

The Dolphins are down to three wide receivers after losing Gibson for the year and will have to add talent at the position.

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins will be without wide receiver Brandon Gibson for the remainder of the year after he suffered a torn patellar tendon in the team's Week 8 loss to the New England Patriots, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Gibson, 26, signed with the Dolphins on a three-year deal worth $9.78 million in March and accumulated 30 receptions for 326 yards and three touchdowns in his first seven games with the team. Prior to joining the Dolphins, Gibson played in four seasons with the St. Louis Rams, tallying 174 receptions for 2,090 yards and nine touchdowns with the team.

With Gibson lost for the year, the Dolphins aren’t expected to waste any time finding a replacement, as Rapoport reports the team will be hosting wide receivers for tryouts on Tuesday. It would also be possible, according to Kevin Nogle of SB Nation’s Dolphins blog, The Phinsider, to trade for one of the high-profile receivers that are reportedly on the market.

The Dolphins are expected to expand Rishard Matthews' role in the offense in Gibson's absence, but have only three receivers on roster following the loss.
