Colts trade rumors: Chuck Pagano says Indy set at wide receiver

The Colts are content with their current group of wide receivers, according to the team’s head coach.

The Indianapolis Colts suffered a significant blow with the loss of wide receiver Reggie Wayne to a torn ACL, but the team doesn't sound like one that's ready to make a blockbuster move to acquire a receiver. On Tuesday morning, Colts head coach Chuck Pagano told Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star has "decided to stand pat" at the receiver position with the trade deadline looming.

Left with T.Y. Hilton, Coby Fleener and Darrius Heyward-Bey as the only major contributors in the passing game, many speculated that the Colts, a team that showed aggressiveness in free agency and earlier in the year with a trade for Trent Richardson, would be interested in striking a deal for one of the receivers rumored to be on the market. The problem for the Colts might be money, though.

Brad Wells of SB Nation's Colts blog, Stampede Blue, gave a break down of the team's cap situation and it's tight. With only $1.3 million in cap room, the Colts would be tough pressed to acquire a receiver that is affordable. That would certainly seem to rule out the acquisition of a player like Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals who counts more than $10 million against the cap this season and will cost $18 million in 2014.

Pagano’s comment seems to end speculation, as the Colts will instead elect to attempt a postseason run without Wayne or a trade acquisition to replace him. Through the first eight weeks of the season, only four teams have averaged fewer pass attempts per game than the Colts.
