The San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans will face off in prime time on Sunday night, as both teams attempt to shrug off the .500 mark in favor of a winning 3-2 record. The two teams are coming off very different games, with the Texans dominating the Seattle Seahawks through one half before squandering the lead and eventually the entire game in overtime, and the 49ers dominating and not squandering a win over the St. Louis Rams.
Texans vs. 49ers 2013 odds: San Francisco favored by more than a touchdown at home
The San Francisco 49ers are favored over the Houston Texans for their Week 5 matchup.

San Francisco opened as 4.5-point favorites in the matchup, according to OddsShark. Given that the 49ers made it to the Super Bowl last season and the fact that the game is being played at Candlestick Park, this is unsurprising, but the line has moved a great deal since opening and it is somewhat surprising that you can find San Francisco favored by as much as 7.5 points.
It’s likely that oddsmakers simply don’t feel confident in Houston quarterback Matt Schaub. The Texans are a very good team, but Schaub has been careless with the football and the 49ers are a team that would certainly take advantage of that. Schaub has thrown a pick-six in his last three games.
The over/under for the matchup opened at 42.5 points and is right around there on most books midweek. The total has gone over in four of Houston’s last five games and nine of San Francisco’s last 11, so it could be a smart bet.
