Peyton Manning, Jimmy Graham named NFL players of the month for September

The NFL awards are out for September and the surprises are few.

US PRESSWIRE

The NFL has released the award winners from September, and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning leads the list, according to NFL.com.

In a true stunner that deserves a recount, Manning won the AFC Player of the Month award. Manning threw 16 touchdown passes and no interception while leading the Denver Broncos to a 4-0 mark.

His receiver Wes Welker likely isn't surprised at all by this honor. As Welker said after Sunday's victory against the Eagles (via the Broncos official website):

"He’s an exceptional player and he prepares like nobody else," wide receiver Wes Welker added. "He’s kind of the catalyst for getting everything going."

On the NFC side of things, Jimmy Graham took home the NFC Player of the Month after dominating opposing defenses. Graham hauled in six touchdowns from Drew Brees, leaving no doubt as to who the best tight end in football is. He has 27 catches for 458 yards after the first month of play.

Graham is the first tight end to ever win the award since the league started handing them out in 1986, according to Randall Liu.

As for the other awards:

AFC defensive player Justin Houston Kansas City Chiefs
NFC defensive player Richard Sherman Seattle Seahawks
AFC special teamer Trindon Holliday Denver Broncos
NFC special teamer Cordarrelle Patterson Minnesota Vikings
Offensive rookie DeAndre Hopkins Houston Texans
Defensive rookie Kiko Alonso
Buffalo Bills
