NFL moves Texans vs. Chiefs on Oct. 20 to late afternoon

The league has changed the start time for a Week 7 game in order to accommodate other regional games happening that day.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL has moved the Texans-Chiefs Week 7 game back from a 1 p.m. ET start time to 4:25 p.m. The Houston Chronicle had more on explaining the switch by the league:

The league said the change was made to “accommodate regional broadcast patterns,” which is a fancy way of saying that Texans-Chiefs was scheduled at noon opposite the St. Louis-Carolina and Dallas-Philadelphia games on Fox. Moving the Texans-Chiefs game creates, in effect, statewide doubleheaders for the Missouri and Texas teams on Fox at noon and CBS at 3:25 p.m.

The Kansas City Chiefs have instantly become a more interesting matchup to watch, as their 4-0 start to the year is already double the amount of wins they had in all of 2012. The Texans are 2-2 to open the year, having stumbled a bit out of the gate after winning the AFC South for the second year in a row last season.

Houston travels to San Francisco take on the 49ers this week and then returns home to face the Rams the following week, before its game against the Chiefs. Kansas City looks to improve to 6-0 over the next two weeks, facing the Titans in Tennessee this week and then taking on the Raiders at home in Week 6.
