Chip Kelly still not interested in USC job, ‘very, very excited’ to be in Philly

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has no plans to leave Philadelphia.

Despite already having shot down recent speculation, Chip Kelly continues to deny plans to leave the Philadelphia Eagles for the University of Southern California. Kelly refuted reports of his consideration for the USC job on Thursday, according to Birds 24/7's Tim McManus.

The former Oregon head coach was hired by the Eagles earlier this year, after the organization let go of longtime head coach Andy Reid. While the Eagles have gotten off a bumpy 1-3 start, Kelly says he likes where he is and does not plan to leave.

“I’m the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. I’m very, very excited to be here,” said Kelly, when asked about the possible USC interest. “No entertaining anything like that. I’m here.”

Kelly signed a five-year, $32.5 million deal with the Eagles in January. Eagles president Don Smolenski dismissed the USC reports as fodder when asked about the rumors, per McManus.

"Chip is our head coach and paying no attention to the national banter around this topic," said president Don Smolenski. "His focus is on the Giants. And, next week, it will be on the Buccaneers. And the week after that Dallas..."

Also, even if Kelly decided to leave Philadelphia, he would not be able to make his next stop in college football for at least another year. The NCAA has imposed an 18-month show-cause order on Kelly, which would force the Eagles head coach to “appear before the Committee on Infractions” if he enters the hiring process with a college program. This meeting would determine Kelly’s punishment based on NCAA bylaws.

The Eagles will be on the road in Week 5 against the Giants on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
