Tony Romo wants to make sure referees are watching Denver’s physical play.

Romo said on a conference call that Denver’s defensive backs “do a great job with their hands,” which initially sounds like praise until Romo added: “They grab, they hold, they’ve almost put a lot of pressure on the refs -- whether or not they’re going to call the game close or not.”
The Dallas quarterback is off to the best start of his career, posting a 105.1 quarterback rating -- but his subtlety is in the negative.
Denver’s secondary has been called for pass interference five times in 2013. As a team the Broncos have been penalized 27 times this season, tied for ninth-most in the NFL. This doesn’t directly refute Romo’s assertion, but it’s a little more damning when his own defense has just one more penalty on the season.
