Josh Gordon trade rumors: Browns received several offers for WR, per report

Cleveland entertained several promising offers for Gordon heading into the trade deadline, but decided none were good enough.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns received several enticing offers for big-play wide receiver Josh Gordon heading into Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, but none were good enough to wrest away one of the league's top up-and-coming offensive talents, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer.

The Browns were known to be shopping around their talented but troubled star, but with Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline having come and gone, he’ll remain in Cleveland until at least the end of this season.

In just his second year as a pro, Gordon ranks fourth in the league with 97 receiving yards per game and has scored three touchdowns in the six games he’s played in. He’s been by far the Browns most productive offensive player, despite having to catch passes from three seperate starting quarterbacks in Cleveland’s 2013 carousel of signal callers. A deep threat who can score from anywhere on the field, he ranks fifth in the league with 18.2 yards per reception and his eight career touchdowns have come at an average distance of 44.1 yards.

The Browns decision to hold on to him no doubt has something to do with the 132 yards and a touchdown he put up with Jason Campbell under center last week against the Chiefs.

The primary motivator for trade talks was the fact that the Browns have had to balance his on-field production with his off-field distractions. Gordon served a two-game suspension to start the season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and could face a year-long ban for his next violation.
