NFL Players of the Week: Calvin Johnson named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Calvin Johnson was named NFC Player of the Week, surprising no one. He had 329 yards receiving against the Cowboys on Sunday.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Calvin Johnson's 329-yard outburst against the Dallas Cowboys has earned the wideout NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Wednesday's announcement should come as a surprise to no one. The performance was the second-most productive for a wide receiver in NFL history. Johnson caught 14-of-16 targets on the day. Surprisingly, he had just one touchdown for the Detroit Lions.

In the AFC, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones was honored after catching eight passes for 122 yards and four touchdowns. The performance was easily a career best for the second-year wideout. Jones had not gone over 100 yards receiving in a game until Sunday.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was named the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week. He had five tackles, one for loss, three passes defended and a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown to help the Denver Broncos beat the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Fellow cornerback Terrell Thomas was honored in the NFC. He had 11 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one pass defended to help the New York Giants beat the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ryan Succop kicked four field goals to help keep the Kansas City Chiefs undefeated, and was recognized as the AFC Special Teams Players of the Week for his efforts. Minnesota Vikings rookie Cordarrelle Patterson had a 109-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to earn the nod from the NFC.
