Lance Briggs injury: Bears LB says he’ll be out 2-3 weeks

The veteran linebacker wanted to return to the game after separating his shoulder but was unable to put his helmet on.

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs spoke about his shoulder injury on Wednesday and said that while doctors expect him to miss 4-6 weeks, Briggs believes he will be out more like 2-3 weeks. Briggs added that the two parties would likely "meet somewhere in the middle" on the timetable for his return, which could be interpreted as 3-5 weeks.

Speaking on "The Lance Briggs Show," the veteran linebacker said that he knew something was wrong during their Week 7 loss to the Redskins after another player was laying on his arm and it became separated. He wanted to get taped up and return to the game but said he couldn't put his helmet on. "If I can't put my helmet on, I don't need to be out on the field," said Briggs.

The Bears are coming off of a bye week and return to face the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. They will be without several stars, including Briggs and quarterback Jay Cutler, while cornerback Charles Tillman is questionable with a knee injury.

Briggs leads the team with 64 total tackles, and is tied for the team lead in sacks, pass deflections, and forced fumbles. Rookies Jon Bostic and Khaseem Greene will see extended playing time.
