Jeff Cumberland injury: Concussion will keep Jets TE out vs. Saints

With Cumberland out and Kellen Winslow on suspension, the Jets will rely on undrafted rookie Zac Sudfeld against New Orleans.

Andy Lyons

New York Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland has been ruled out for this Sunday's game against the Saints with a concussion, per Manish Mehta. Cumberland, 26, suffered the injury in the Jets 49-9 loss to the Bengals in Week 8 and it was reported on Monday that he had suffered a mild concussion. It was believed at the time that Cumberland was probable to play in Week 9, but he has now been ruled out.

Cumberland is the teams starting tight end in the absence of Kellen Winslow serving a four-game suspension for violating the leagues PED rules. This Sunday's game against New Orleans will be the fourth and final game of that suspension.

Cumberland is third on the team with 248 yards but stepped up in recent weeks with Winslow out. The fourth-year tight end had a career-high 79 yards against the Falcons in Week 5. The other tight ends listed on the Jets depth chart are Konrad Reuland and Zac Sudfeld.

Sudfeld, released by the Patriots after a disappointing start to the season, had two catches for 10 yards against the Bengals.
