Santonio Holmes was present at New York Jets practice Wednesday and took part in position drills for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 4, the Newark Star-Ledger reports. Holmes has missed four straight games for an ailing Jets offense. There is no word yet whether he will be able to suit up for Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints.
Santonio Holmes injury: Jets WR makes progress in practice
Santonio Holmes was back in practice for the Jets on Wednesday, and may be able to return soon from a hamstring injury.

Holmes' participation in practice is certainly encouraging. The Jets are banged up, especially in the receiving corps. Stephen Hill and Jeremy Kerley were both reportedly held out of the 30-minute portion of practice that was open to the media. The extent of the ailments is unclear. Kerley is reportedly dealing with hamstring tightness.
Holmes' return would give a much needed shot of confidence to a Jets offense that was horrid against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Geno Smith threw two interceptions before being replaced by Matt Simms, and the Jets managed just 240 total yards of offense on the day. David Nelson was the team's only productive pass catcher, with eight receptions for 80 yards on 12 targets.
Holmes has 10 receptions for 243 yards and a touchdown in four appearances this season. His injury struggles have been a constant frustration for the Jets. Holmes appeared in just four games last season due to a Lisfranc injury.
