Thad Lewis injury: Bills QB is ‘50-50’ to play vs. Chiefs

Lewis is suffering from a rib injury, and Buffalo may have to call upon an undrafted rookie, and a player who was released by the Raiders only a few weeks ago, to start against one of the top defenses in the NFL.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Thad Lewis is "50-50" to start this week against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to head coach Doug Marrone. Lewis was sacked four times against the Saints in Week 8, and it appears as though a rib injury may force him to sit out against the Chiefs. Lewis is filling in for rookie E.J. Manuel (knee) who has already been ruled out.

If Lewis is unable to go, Marrone will need to make a decision between undrafted free agent Jeff Tuel and midseason free agent signee Matt Flynn. Tuel is 8-of-20 on the season for 80 yards with an interception, while Flynn played in two games for the Oakland Raiders and was released.

Lewis has now made three starts for the Bills in the absence of Manuel and is completing 60.2 percent of his passes for 652 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
