Jay Ratliff rumors: Free-agent DT visits Bears, Chiefs, per report

The former-Pro Bowl defensive lineman is looking for his next job after being cut by Dallas last week.

Free agent defensive tackle Jay Ratliff has made visits to the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears in an attempt to keep his NFL career going, according to ESPN's Ed Werder. He is expected to meet with one more unnamed team before making a decision, assuming he receives multiple offers.

Medical and training staff from both teams have cleared Ratliff -- who was cut by the Cowboys two weeks ago for medical reasons -- and believe he could be ready to play within the next month, sources told Werder. For two teams that are likely headed to the playoffs, even a return as late as December could pay dividends.

Ratliff was released by the Dallas Cowboys back on Oct. 16 after it was determined he was visiting his own doctors and going outside the team to get a medical opinion. He suffered a hamstring injury prior to the season that has prevented him from playing a single snap in 2013. A groin injury kept the 32-year old vet out of all but six of the Cowboys' games last season.

Ratliff was cleared by Dr. William Meyer, who performed his sports hernia surgery, the week following his release, prompting his agent to immediately inform the remaining 31 teams of his availability.

The defender is also dealing with off-field issues. He faces charges of driving under the influence, stemming from an arrest earlier this year.
