NFL injury roundup: Aqib Talib practices in pads, Morris Claiborne hampered by hamstring injury

Injury updates for Aqib Talib, the Bills and Jamaal Charles are among the headlines making news on Thursday.

Scott Cunningham

Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib is back in pads. The former Buccaneers defensive back practiced in pads after avoiding contact drills in Week 8 due to a hip injury, according to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe. The move to the extra armor is a good sign for his status on Sunday.

Talib is full pads, meaning that he also has padding on his injured hip. He has missed the last two games due to the injury that he suffered in Week 6.

Here are some more injury headlines that you may have missed on Thursday:

Andrew Hawkins injury: Bengals activate WR from short-term IR

The Bengals have activated slot receiver Andrew Hawkins off of the short-term injured reserve. Hawkins was placed on the list because of high ankle sprain that he suffered in training camp. He has missed the first eight games of the season but will add another weapon to the Bengals offense as they look to expand their lead in the AFC North.

With the emergence of Marvin Jones opposite A.J. Green, Hawkins will likely serve most of his playing time in the slot. The Bengals will face the Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, but it is unclear whether Hawkins will be in the lineup against Miami.

Fred Jackson, Kyle Williams and Stevie Johnson return to practice

The Bills saw the return of three of their most prominent players on Thursday. Running back Fred Jackson, defensive tackle Kyle Williams and wide receiver Stevie Johnson all participated in practice, according to WGR550's Joe Buscaglia.

Johnson had been suffering from a hip flexor injury, while Jackson is dealing with a sprained MCL. Williams missed Wednesday’s practice with an Achilles injury. Unfortunately for the Bills, quarterback Thad Lewis missed his second-straight practice with a ribs injury, per Buscaglia.

Knee injury will not sideline Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles, per report

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles sat out of practice on Wednesday with a sore knee. However, he is not expected to miss any time with the injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Teicher. Charles is likely to start on Sunday against the Bills.

The knee injury was suffered during Week 8's win over the Browns. Charles was briefly sidelined but later returned to the game. Rookie Knile Davis is Charles' immediate backup and could see more playing time against the Bills.

Cowboys CB Morris Claiborne could be out until Week 12

Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne could be out for a while with a hamstring injury. The former first-round pick believes he may not return to the lineup until after the Cowboys' Week 11 bye, according to ESPN Dallas writer Todd Archer. Claiborne suffered the injury in Week 8's loss to the Lions.

Orlando Scandrick is Claiborne's immediate backup on the Cowboys depth chart. The Cowboys will face the Vikings on Sunday.
