The Dolphins started the season with three straight wins but crashed down to earth in October, losing four games in a row. Free agent signee Mike Wallace and offensive guard Richie Incognito have been most critical of Sherman's decision-making. Wallace has been upset with the team's lack of deep passing and Incognito talked about how the run game was abandoned in a loss to New England in Week 8.
Miami is currently averaging 311 yards per game, ranking 28th in the NFL while slotting in the league’s lower third in points scored.
Miami's issues continue as starting right tackle Jonathan Martin will miss Thursday night's game against the Cincinnati Bengals after having what's being described as an "emotional breakdown."
The tipping point seems to have been some teasing inside the Dolphins’ facility when players refused to sit with the second-year offensive tackle. He took offense to his treatment, slamming a tray of food on the table and leaving. Martin has not returned to team facilities yet and is reportedly seeking counseling.
The Buffalo Bills are once again dealing with injuries at the quarterback position as Thad Lewis missed practice this week with a rib injury.
Head coach Doug Marrone has not said publicly whether the injury will force Lewis out of action on Sunday. He had been filling in for injured rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel, who continues to recover from a knee injury. If Lewis is unable to play, the team will turn to Jeff Tuel or Matt Flynn, who was signed midseason as a free agent.
Veteran defensive tackle Jay Ratliff is still searching for a team following his release by the Dallas Cowboys, but the wait might not be long.
Ratliff visited the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears this week, though no signing has occurred at this time. The Bears are in dire need of help at the position after starter Henry Melton was lost to injury earlier this season while Kasas City looks to round up its roster for a push in the second half of the season.
The Cincinnati Bengals are on the verge of being a lot more dangerous on offense with the addition of wide receiver Andrew Hawkins, who was activated from injured reserve. It's expected he'll slot in behind Marvin Jones on the team's depth chart, at least initially.
Hawkins finished the 2012 season with 533 yards and four touchdowns.
