Ahmad Bradshaw injury: Neck surgery possible for Colts running back

Ahmad Bradshaw may require season-ending surgery on his neck, but he’s taking time to mull over his options.

Indianapolis Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw may need surgery on his neck, although he's not rushing into a decision. The surgery would end his 2013 season.

Bradshaw suffered the injury in Week 3's win over the San Francisco 49ers. He didn't play last week and will not be playing in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. He saw several specialists and plans on taking a couple of weeks off to decide whether to go under the knife. Head coach Chuck Pagano is willing to give him all the time he needs. From ESPN:

“Again, I think it’s a matter of calming things down, taking some time to just figure out where we’re at with this thing,” Pagano said. “Consult with trainers, doctors and just make the right decision. Ultimately it’s what’s best for Ahmad.”

Bradshaw signed a one-year deal with the Colts in the offseason expecting to be in a rotation with Vick Ballard. When Ballard went on injured reserve, the Colts traded for Trent Richardson, again hoping to use a committee. Now that Bradshaw is out indefinitely, Richardson is expected to be the main featured back, with Donald Brown checking in as a backup.
