Bills rumors: Jairus Byrd on block, per report

The Bills may finally be interested in moving away from Jairus Byrd.

Norm Hall

It took an entire summer and five missed games, but the Bills are now open to moving their "franchise" player. The Bills are now open to dealing Pro Bowl safety Jairus Byrd, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Bills had been reluctant to deal the two-time Pro Bowl safety, despite his holdout in the summer and missed games so far this season. Byrd was given the franchise tag in March but held out throughout OTAs and training camp while seeking a trade. The team was unable to sign Byrd to an extension prior to the deadline for franchise players and the veteran is still playing on the one-year deal. The Bills will now likely deal the star safety while they can get some sort of value for him.

If a team trades for Byrd, it will not be able to sign him to a long-term deal until the summer. He is also dealing with Plantar fasciitis, which has kept him out of five games this season. The Bills, at this point, will likely have to settle for a late-round pick for Byrd.
