Broncos vs. Cowboys 2013 results: Peyton Manning, Denver break records in 51-48 shootout win over Dallas

The Cowboys and Broncos battled in a classic shootout for the ages.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Broncos broke plenty of records in their historic shootout win over the Cowboys on Sunday. The record-breaking kept on coming as Peyton Manning threw for a new lead mark with 20 touchdowns through five games. He also ran for a touchdown, which was his first running score in five seasons.

The Cowboys were viewed as underdogs leading up to Week 5's matchup against the Broncos, but the way they started off clearly indicated that was not the case. The Cowboys began the game with a Tony Romo pass for a touchdown to wide receiver Dez Bryant. They later recovered a fumble by Broncos receiver Eric Decker, leading to another scoring drive capped off by a DeMarco Murray touchdown run. It was the first time in 356 days that the Broncos had trailed by 14 or more points.

Morris Claiborne was responsible for Peyton Manning's first interception of the season, picking him off at the end of the third quarter. The Cowboys did all they could to match point for point with the Broncos and led, 48-41, in the fourth quarter.

A Matt Prater field goal as time expired sealed the deal for Denver. The overall onslaught of a combined 99 points ended in a 51-48 victory for the Broncos, with Denver accumulating the most points through the first five games in NFL history. Its 230 points are a historic and remarkable achievement. Manning, at 37 years old, is having the greatest season for a quarterback in NFL history.

Fantasy studs and duds

Peyton Manning is the obvious stud in this matchup with over 400 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdowns and one interception. Julius Thomas also had 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Jason Witten, Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams all went over 100 yards and each had a touchdown (two for Bryant). Tony Romo threw for more than 500 yards and five touchdowns.

Did they cover?

The Broncos were 9-point favorites, according to OddsShark, so they did not cover the spread.
